Aftercare Information

Bandages

If I apply Saniderm/ Dermsheild/ Second Skin, leave it on for no more than 3 days. The bandage will fill with blood and ink which is normal. Take shorter showers till the 3rd day to ensure bandage will stay on as long as it can. To remove the second skin, treat the bandage somewhat like a command strip, the more you stretch and pull the bandage close to the skin the more it releases it.

If I apply Cling Wrap leave on for on 2 hour and remove, do not rewrap tattoo.

Cleaning the tattoo

Wash with hand soap and rinse thoroughly with clean water. Don’t leave any soap left on tattoo.  Don’t over wash but keep it clean. Antibacterial soap works but not necessary.  For sensitive skin soaps without color or scent works best.

Keeping your tattoo moisturized

After cleaning the tattoo let it air dry for 10 minutes.  Apply SUPER thin coat of Aquaphor. There should be little or no build up. Only apply more if tattoo is becoming dry or itchy. DO NOT SCRATCH, instead gently apply Aquaphor by massaging the area. If you have sensitive skin you can switch over to a white lotion “ Curel, Lubriderm” with no scent or color but will need to be applied several times a day.  Apply moisturizer until tattoo is matte with the skin which can take up to a month to a month and a half.

Swimming, Sun, and Exercising

Stay out of water for at least 3 weeks.  You want the tattoo to develop a stronger layer of skin over it. A fresh tattoo is somewhat like a scab, you don’t want your tattoo to become pruny as it’ll affect the crispness of the lines and color of the tattoo.

Stay out of direct sunlight for at least 3 weeks as a fresh tattoo has little to no UV protection. After a month of being healed you can use sunscreen to protect tattoo.

Give yourself at least 2 days for light exercise and 2 weeks for intense training. Gyms are high bacteria environment for infecting a tattoo, do not let your tattoo come into contact with gym equipment. Avoid exercises that can stretch the tattoo and clothing that would apply friction over it.
